At least we won that war against recruiter lies way back. Became house hubby rising son while she sold houses and THEN found a way to make a fortune sitting at table drinking coffee. Very simple family USAA brokerage acts and a modem or call to ask quotes and it all blossomed so I finally realized I’d access to so much more research than ever dreamed about in library search in my EdD program at Texas Tech and here we is talking in it. Took much effort to actually get to places to check them out but with a good idea what was to be found already and cut to the chase and bring the findings home. Swapped war stories & he said I think it was me leading S Viet Marines that day. Got elected to congress, got terminal illness and was gone. VA Clinic’s named after. Madla died in Xmas candle fire disaster with little girl and Hellen we see working to rescue S San School dist from graft and politics. 24 July ’66 was submitted as Silver Star but downgraded in Saigon as DFC for Heroism. Not too much shade difference but other 4 were just Extraordinary Achievement. Think was 40 meters away and 50′ below tree level got it passed finally. I had 8 X 50’s and other ship 4X 20s and we’d bang off few as we could until Winchester ( tha’s all folks code) and finally all across the 50 meter wide open on way to the beach with Cruiser covering then Big guns of no use troops in contact. Interesting day as real msn was dive bombing at N VN coastal choke pt Dong Hoi and had schitt shot out at us by 37MM first until stores expended. Just on way home & volunteered when call came on Guard Freq. Got an 1 Corp HQ msg thanks. Medal came well over a year Nov ’67 and awarded all by myself( usually that much calls for parade ) down in Command Post Shaw AFB SC with other 4 DFC’s, Purple Heart and Commendation Medal plus final 13 Air medals . Took about as long as rescue just lots safer. 8

Closest view was visiting a Pendelton recruit cousin as a 1st Lt at March AFB in Sac B-52s ’65. Told my aunt I’d say hi. DI Sgt brought him to quonset orderly all sweaty from a run and we talked family a time. Told me he caught hell but was best day of basic to just get to STOP half hr.

But I also let a rumpled seedy fatigues Jarhead 2nd John set at my lunch table DOOM ( Danang Officers Open Mess ) in July next year. Told me with that 1000 meter stare “I’m embarrassed , Sir,” A Capt then, “but last week was ranking Jr NCO all officers killed up by DMZ. Handed me some big gold bars and I don’t have an idea how to act. ” I stood and saluted him as best man Id met that day. Hope he made the rest of tour. Flew with lotza Gyreen F-4s and supported troops in contact really deep in the real war. Got to rescue 105 one sunny aft at 50′ along tree line HI way 1 at Hue. Over and over out of guns just jet blast each let 10-20 scuttle on over asphalt to the 1 mile away coastal landing craft. Just about hottest hour my entire life and was AFTER bombing up North VN on way home with unused 20MM. Talk dumb and stupid! Thinkin of that 2nd John. As life went on we think my once local C’man Frank Tejada was the 2nd Lt that day. Its a funny life! 8

Bit explain. Fall ’14 we flew to Sydney and began Park West VIP cruise to end Aukland New Zeeland after Aus. Melbourn 2nd stop. Coasting up the west side S Island 2nd stop was at Wellington and Wing Nut studio tour. Guide was a men’s Univ Prof and extra on all the 3 Rings like about all else. Took us to initial shot made on Victoria Hill middle of town. Was the Hobbits hiding from the Black Rider tho farmer’s corn field was way down the island. Below the pathway edge a small hidey hole was made and the 4 huddled there. When someone tumbling down says “think I broke something” was no carrot, was a gag line because an extra broke his arm on the prep shot as stunt double. As we left I picked up a small tree branch and used as a staff up to the bus stop. Decided was a cool thing so kept it. I call it a hobbit sized wand and use today going for the mail up the block with a cute soccer prize head for the grip. Dorly said I can’t take that on a 777and I said watch me. Going thru the Sydney customs to fly home the lady saw me using it and directed us to the handicapped line even with her on oxygen and here I am the Gold Wizzard. YOU SHALLL NOT PASS!
