Okies & Ole Kentuck

Post by 8thaero » Sat Jul 07, 2018 9:21 pm

I grew up looking daily at what was once Kern River valley swamp. But the pump jacks were surrounded by aging wooden derricks in the early 40’s.
“I LOVE the smell of lung burning asphalt tar in the morning”. Baker did NOT discover an oil field, Standard Oil did. He just dug 3 canals irrigating desert agriculture. One we lived on in OIldale, ‘Okieland’ E of US 99 & Kern River to make discovery possible in 1900’s . May have been a good lesson age 5 off to WW2 adults building military bases and ships in San Francisco as a REAL civic education gone to handbasket Hell! Homeless haven! Watch where ya step! 8

I’ve a MA from Ball St, but took classes 2 yrs evenings overseas MIlitary program. Never even seen Muncie. Spent i nite Indianapolis motel driving back with family from Germany, into McGuire AFB in 1975 off to CA and finally Texas.Just recall McD had started to make a bfast of sorts then drove to Jefferson City, Denver and Salinas with a nite in Salt Lake, Hill AFB. State always seemed a real wide area to traverse to get anyplace but JIm Nabors loved it. 8

Towards Lyrical Satirical Poetry

Lesson for the day.

Several rhyme patterns can be a sonnet. Here’s 3 quatrains and a couplet, Shakespearean. Emma used a Spenserian pattern, couplet between quatrains.

Ode to the Gold
A Sonnet by Eighthaero

My lovely gold, you now inspire me write
Of how I love the way you hide then glow,
Invading all my mind both day and night,
With dreams of just how much my worth will grow.

Should I compare thee to a summer’s day?
You’re my true fancy, pure in value money.
Bright sun heats up the month of May
Just as we bid adieu the Easter Bunny.

How do I love you? Let me tell the way
I love your precious color, shine and gleam.
Thoughts of your brilliant shine fills all my day
And ends with slumber in a lovely dream.

As now I must go toil with useful heart,
Hold fast my loving words whilst we’re apart

We vats to please but jus vants to be alone! Tired, poor? Just looking to see how that will translate on them ‘hubbled masses yearning to speak free’! Luv it when a plan comes together. 8

n CA in late 40s post war thick std English Comp text was a giant ($$$) tome, “Readings for a Liberal Education”. 2 Semesters long IF you passed the ‘Subject A’ exam or took 1st Bonehead English semester for no credit. Was what should be taught in Hi School. Some later was rethot and named “Readings TOWARDS a LIberal Education”. since you either got it or didn’t up to the student. 1st class Fall Semester that was explained by my prof a new UC grad, Ben Luchow . I chose to do the essays by rewrite some classics such as “Upon Julia’s Clothes”. R Herrick 1591-1674.

https://interestingliterature.com/2017/ … s-clothes/

“In bobby sox my Jullie goes. Then, when through holes, I see her toes… Her Jeans and T-shirt I oppose .”

I explained to Ben, nice bright Jewish fellow, my year’s project will be “TOWARDS Lyrical, Satirical Poetry” & he lapped it up. Carried it on throughout a now long life. Blog stuff. 8

Simple fact is into it there no escape for now 62 years. Any paper scrap can take a scribble. Never my real business some stuff’d get quoted local and national. Sisters Ann Landers and Abby Van Buren, WPO’s Bill Safire were occasional fans as my old fiend Heloise (the younger) here in SAT still at her work. Express News here had a “Puro San Antonio” contest a long while back. Winner?

Pure is not selective numbers
Pure is not the driven snow.
Pure is mutual, all inclusive.
Puro San Antonio.
Pure is fun along a river.
Peace within the Alamo.
Cascarones at fiesta.
Puro San Antonio.

Printed on my checks ever since. Due some nice prizes. like a pvt dinner cruise. free rooms in town, never got a one. All seem to just forget they donated them. “Oh that lady left awhile back.” Least Puro term still used in publicity. 8

Little night music

Your class has a great life expectancy compared to others–

Had it not been for combat in Vietnam your class would have been outstanding.

How is all in SA?

It was nice tro see you in San Antonio– you guys have not aged– U must being doing something RIGHT!

My hand joints and back are starting to bug me a lot.
Did you apply for any VA disabilities that are service connected?

Hard to figure the promotion thing– you certainly had the awards– much more than I did.
BOTTOM Line you have a great family and did well on investments– had you got promoted never know– some times SET BACKS make us a better person.

You and your wife have done MUCH better than Sharon and I have.

Caring for your son probably was a BIG help and at least you did not have problems like some people do– My wife played that role with our kids and both are doing fine!

Will call you next time in SATX and we can get a group to meet for lunch– Jim

Have a AF member had similar issue and eventually they gave him a medical retirement– that would give him an opportunity to go into civil service BUT he decised that was not the way to go so works for a contractor– knowing the AF they probably would have shaffed him on the medical if he went civil service–.

I am surprised they would put you in an ejection aircraft after the BACK and neck fractures– Hope they gave you 100%.

My friend Noel Sweeten got a medical retirement BUT they drug it out for almost 3 years and he was in the keesler Hospital for about a year.

Many times when we were youung and got hurt figured it would get better the next day BUT in your case did not know the extend of the REAL back injury and then it is usually worse because additional damage was done.

One they missed  nearly killed me. Work up for  disability bd at  W Hall kept  testing  my  rt  ear. My reaction to sound was  just too  fast. Finally  just  accepted  the  reading. Ear drum bursts and the lining of the  ear canal is the  fastest  growing  skin in the body. Dr   said we  saved  your life  but lost the  ear.   Opened  up a big flap and there  was my   carotid  artery   pulsing    with nearly  no  covering. Did a bone  graft to  protect it and packed me full of antibiotic   gel gauze and made a  new  ear canal and  ear  drum. All the  3 little  bones  transmit  sound   were  eroded  away.   I could  stick in my  finger was so large.    What it  did was  send  sound  via liquid  like rocks clicked in a  swim pool faster  than  air.  Took 6  mo for all the skull  bone to regrow and  down to a  .38 cal not  .50.   Now we   work to keep the   left ear  working  with   titanium  window open   so  get  vacuumed out  every  3 months.  NOBODY had  ears checked more that me  for  all my  time  active and ALL flt surgeons missed the  sign of a  miscolored   upper  ear drum  that  trainee  caught  At Audi Murphy  VA in ’80. 3 pics…. Ridge is very top of range above Ures and falls off to well below valley runs on down to highway at Ures Town . 8 Bros adjoins but is slightly lower and will use a different process than VAT for lead/silver oxidised to release PM and base metals. Can see why water spray truck needed in the powder soil. Going to need packed gravel in any wet season. Both jaw and cone are used to size the easy dug ore and convey into big VAT. 3 day leach with bubbled air to stir the solution , pumped to 5K containers for MC to process one a time. Crush scooped out for clean up and use as possible where needed. As said paving the site seems a goodie when neutralized. Imagine in a time water main built for water source below so no haul up needed. Plan WILL come together fast. 8

SO… aint it amazin how much ihub misses days at a time? Awful strong urge to set them into today “no news” but let them beg for any ‘UP FIDO” we’d provide our dog. BTW was named ‘Spur’. Hada funny left claw. Ran away during a July 4th neighborhood F’ cracker bombardment.

Hope all are still at the table Monday. This jumps at the slightest nudge as we all know and even hangs tuf otherwise.

We, however, recall some real heros brought us where we are on an historic come back never seen before. Weeknd 52 years ago I hit Clark AB for 3 weeks combat crew training. June 20 , ’66 flew a replacement bird for a combat loss to DaNang and it was on for 18 months. Impossible to consider next 18 months stretching on so just get up each day and do your job. Finally a Short Timer month to go could click off 30 days one by one. Freedom Bird home. Piece of cake! 8

Can you interpret this ? Was Garcia jailed ? Who/ what is M Martinez and Co. and how has Mexus share increased a bunch ?

“Latest twist is speaking to Robert Garcia (same incompetent know-nothing , (must we look that link up? ) I now find was the consultant advised CEO in ’13 the San Felix nitric acid process could be used to steal gold. We looked closely and Federales overcame his resistance in Mexus office to capture and jail the crook no metal lost and used as evidence proof in court. Made a REAL impression on Caborca. Now M Martinez & Company 50% unpaid share JV tossed out of town and in court to recover union wages and Mexus share just increases respect a bunch.”

One of Oscar’s reasons for feel good with MarMar taken to cleaners non-compliance (NEVER MESS WITH PT!) to retake 100% and HIS attorney now in with US enforcing court decision. OK, wait the 21st and see results.

Going in style

Going in style

Back late ’90s as I was learning how to become a pro at video poker during great comp period with some still plus odds games, I’d run across retired English teacher Jean Scott, famed “Frugal Gambler” both in casinos and on line VP clubs. I drove her nuts with my choice of writing style and also debunked a few of the ways she made bucks selling an associate’s Enrolled Agent’s IRS advice. She did an update in ’17 I’ve not read as am certain my own play has well adapted to what still exists in outlier casinos as Tahoe Harrah’s and Harveys’. Biloxi Harrah’s and Reno Peppermill WITH a interested friendly host to make comp exceptions allowed.

So what really bugged Jean? But my Golden Rule? Same’s R L Stevenson, please self and try to bring fun for all. Then assume reader has working brain; often ” there’s the rub!” 8

“To write well, White advises writers to have the proper mind-set, that they write to please themselves, and that they aim for “one moment of felicity”, a phrase by Robert Louis Stevenson (1850–94).[citation needed] Thus Strunk’s 1918 recommendation:
“Make every word tell”; hence the 17th principle of composition is the simple instruction: “Omit needless words.”
