Several rhyme patterns can be a sonnet. Here’s 3 quatrains and a couplet, Shakespearean. Emma used a Spenserian pattern, couplet between quatrains.
Ode to the Gold
A Sonnet by Eighthaero
My lovely gold, you now inspire me write
Of how I love the way you hide then glow,
Invading all my mind both day and night,
With dreams of just how much my worth will grow.
Should I compare thee to a summer’s day?
You’re my true fancy, pure in value money.
Bright sun heats up the month of May
Just as we bid adieu the Easter Bunny.
How do I love you? Let me tell the way
I love your precious color, shine and gleam.
Thoughts of your brilliant shine fills all my day
And ends with slumber in a lovely dream.
As now I must go toil with useful heart,
Hold fast my loving words whilst we’re apart

n CA in late 40s post war thick std English Comp text was a giant ($$$) tome, “Readings for a Liberal Education”. 2 Semesters long IF you passed the ‘Subject A’ exam or took 1st Bonehead English semester for no credit. Was what should be taught in Hi School. Some later was rethot and named “Readings TOWARDS a LIberal Education”. since you either got it or didn’t up to the student. 1st class Fall Semester that was explained by my prof a new UC grad, Ben Luchow . I chose to do the essays by rewrite some classics such as “Upon Julia’s Clothes”. R Herrick 1591-1674.

I explained to Ben, nice bright Jewish fellow, my year’s project will be “TOWARDS Lyrical, Satirical Poetry” & he lapped it up. Carried it on throughout a now long life. Blog stuff. 8
